Shopping whilst on holiday in England

 

Most shops are open from 9 am in the morning until 5.30 or 6 pm in the evening, Monday to Saturday. Extended hours apply in the few weeks before Christmas. Small shops frequently stay closed on a Sunday.

Supermarkets are generally open from 9 am until 8 pm in the evening, except on Sundays when restricted opening hours of 10 am – 4 pm apply.

 

Some large shopping centre may not open until 10 am but stay open until 9 or 10 pm in the evening.

 

Shops do not generally close for lunch except in villages. Those in villages may also close at half day on a Wednesday.

 

Sizing of shoes and clothes is completely different in England to other countries so do use a size guide to obtain a conversion before you arrive.

 

You may still see fruit and vegetables being sold in pounds (lb)and ounces (oz) at markets
